  • 1872 Fire Warden designated
  • 1886 May -  Ephraim Bane organized a hose company and William Ballinger organized a hook and ladder company
  • 1886 June - First official meeting of the volunteer Hutchinson Hose Company No. 1. - Foreman Eli Young
  • 1886 July 1 - Hutchinson Hose Company No. 1 made their first run
  • 1886 July 4 - 4th of July parade and a grand ball was held to raise funds for the uniforms, fire alarm and necessary appliances (equipment).  
  • 1886 July 16  Fire alarm system was installed. It sounded like an ocean steamer.  
  • 1886 July 20  Reno Hose Company No. 2 was organized by Joe Krennick.  City Marshall George Hern was made Fire Warden over both companies.  His salary was $50 per month.
  • 1887 Sept Hutchinson Hose Company No. 1 posted their resignation in the Hutchinson News due to demands not being met for a suitable place to house their equipment.
  • 1890 May 6 Official Fire Department was created by ordinance.  Staff consisted of a Fire Marshall, 3 assistant firemen, one of whom was the driver and limiting the number of volunteer firemen to 6.  A. J. Baum was recommended as Fire Marshall.  Wagon and horses were brought to the Central Station.  B and Main
