HUTCHINSON – Hutchinson Mayor, Jade Piros de Carvalho, announced today that after an extensive search, Jeff Cantrell has been selected as Hutchinson’s new City Manager.
“Jeff brings a great deal of experience, energy and ideas to this role. I’m excited to welcome him to Hutchinson and look forward to working with him to make our community even stronger,” Piros de Carvalho said.
Cantrell comes to the City with more than 26 years of experience serving Kansas municipalities, nearly 20 of those in executive level leadership, and holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas.
In his current position as the City Manager for the city of Chanute, Kansas, Cantrell has helped guide over $100 million in private investment. His experience guiding economic development, enhanced development standards and downtown revitalization planning will be an asset to the City.
“I attribute my successes to relationships formed with partnering agencies, neighboring jurisdictions and other valued stakeholders. It was the collective effort of these groups which advanced projects that otherwise would not have been possible,” Cantrell said.
His first day will be Friday, May 15th.
Current City Manager John Deardoff has agreed to postpone retirement in order to ensure continued progress on some major projects he has played an integral role in, such as the hotel and convention center. Deardoff’s new last day will be May 8th.
Both of these matters will come before Hutchinson City Council during their March 17th meeting.
