Two occupants narrowly escape fire and thick smoke at an early morning fire in Hutchinson. The Hutchinson Fire Department was dispatched for a report of structure fire at 710 West 23rd. Time of the call was 0156. Upon arrival, first on scene units reported a working fire in a brick framed ranch style home with flames coming out from windows and door on the front of the home. Crews were informed that all occupants were accounted for, however, two cats were unaccounted for. Crews performed an aggressive fire attack along with search and rescue efforts in order to quickly locate the missing animals. Fire crews were able to locate the two cats; however, both succumb to the fire.
Fire crews were able to bring the fire under control quickly, but not before it did extensive damage to the structure. The home is deemed inhabitable at this time. Fire investigators will be working to gather the facts to help in determining a cause of this fire. The fire remains under investigation at the time of this press release.
