Or upon petition by simple majority of Board members
The Board of 7 members is appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Governing Body. At least 2 members should be employees of horticulture or tree care businesses. The Reno County Extension Agent for Horticulture and Kansas State District Forester for Reno County shall be non-voting advisors invited to and informed of every meeting. Upon expiration of the term of each board member, subsequent terms shall be for a period of 3 years. At least 4 members of the board shall constitute a quorum for the purpose of conducting the Board's business. For a current listing of members and terms of office, email Craig Morrison.
The Board may elect to bypass the monthly meeting if it is apparent that there is no business to conduct. Resolution No. 2744, Section 4 (PDF), states "That members shall be required to attend not less than 75% of regular meetings." A member with 3 consecutive absences from regular meetings shall forfeit the unexpired portion of his or her term, unless said member shall show, in writing, reasonable cause to the Board to justify such absence.
The Board is established to make recommendations for the implementation of City forestation programs or other programs which call for the implementation of expenditure of funds allocated or given to the "Trees For Tomorrow" fund, which is held by the City for such purpose.
Created by City Ordinance No. 7422.
Meetings are open to the public. Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication at a Board meeting (or any City program, service or activity), should email Meryl Dye, Assistant City Manager/ADA Coordinator, at 620-259-4118 (TDD - KS Relay Center 711), as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled meeting.
