Neighborhood progressive dinner parties provide a great opportunity to establish relationships with neighbors by giving an opportunity to socialize in a unique way. Select a 3-5 hosts, determine who will serve what and invite your neighbors! Bonus: everyone can walk or bike from home to home with worrying about cars or parking. More details on how to plan the event can be found here: http://www.bernardsassets.org/Document/ProgressiveDinnerPartyDocument.pdf

I tried to find a place on the city website to report this lot at the corner of east 23rd and Brentwood but couldn't find anything. So I joined here just so I could report this because the grass and weeds are so high I can't see cars coming from the west while I am on Brentwood...to turn east onto 23rd. I sit in a low riding car. Its getting dangerous for drivers. The grass is most certainly over six inches tall. I took a photo of it but don't see a way to upload it. The sidewalk is also being overtaken by the grass and weeds too. Its certainly not someplace I would want to go down for a walk. I do not know if this is a city owned lot or not, but I know the city oversees over grown properties.

Here are a few ideas of how you can welcome a new neighbor or neighbors to the neighborhood:
-introduce yourself
-give them a small welcome gift such as: fresh batch of cookies,a casserole that can be frozen or refrigerated, fresh produce from your garden, an activity box for their children, a plant for their front porch, a door wreath, or just a simple card or note welcoming them to the neighborhood
-offer to give them a tour of the neighborhood sometime at their convenience
If nothing else...a smile and an introduction go a long way!

I saw 'report a concern' so click on that and it asked me to log in (though I was already logged in), asked for my name, address, etc, but then had no area to actually type my concern. I clicked submit and it shows no concern posted. :/ Well yea cause it gave no area to type the concern. Then tried again and again it only gives the option to report a pot hole, etc, etc...still very limiting...no place to report overgrown grass blocking drivers view.. I know people report trees and bushes blocking drivers views and they get trimmed back but for the life of me I can't find where to do that at. Also when I click the spell check...first time it worked, next time the banner blocked the pop up to do the spell check in. The banner that says, bids, employment, etc. So I am not doing a spell check on this one.

Walking and biking around your neighborhood will increase the chance you come across a neighborhood member you can say hello to. Or take it a step further and start a neighborhood walking club.

Become a part of the area and show people your just now coming when there is trouble. Get to know them and they could be helping you.
I can remember when I was younger how cops were the neighborhood heros to familys and kids

Create a leaf vacuum program where residents can rake their leaves into/along the street and have a City vacuum go by and pick up the leaves. The discarded leaves can then be used for mulch, which can be sold or used for city purposes. Since it would mostly benefit the stormwater sewer system, can you use stormwater fees to pay for it?
